Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital Employees Honored for Excellent Service

Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital salutes departments for achieving service excellence benchmarks by providing exceptional experiences to patients and families. These departments were inducted into the newly formed 90 Club. This club is sponsored by Planetree’s Human Interactions Team, comprised of hospital employees, whose purpose includes caring for staff members through recognition and support. The 90 Club recognizes teams that sustain high scores for patient satisfaction. Newly inducted 90 Club members for November are Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital’s surgeon’s office, Tustin Practice/Rehab, nutrition services department, medical/surgical department, intensive care department, and housekeeping.

“Every day we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our patients and families,” said Lisa Flint, director of patient experiences. “And regardless of their individual roles, these teams have set the example. Our hospital is very proud to recognize these caregivers who are connected to purpose and impacting lives.”

Beyond naming the 90 Club’s charter members, the hospital created a monthly 90 Club Hero award to recognize caregivers through a story of exceptional service told about them by their fellow peers. Nominated by a co-worker, Tonya Pennington was named the Hero for November. Pennington has worked at Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital in various roles since 1992. She currently works in the patient accounts department as a financial counselor. Her role includes navigating patients and families through the maze of financial applications for healthcare.

She describes the award as an overwhelming experience: “This is a very big honor, yet humbling at the same time…because helping people with their financial burdens is just what I do every day. I realize that patients don’t want to be in the hospital anyway, so I try to offer some type of hope, relief and peace if possible.”
