Spectrum Health Taps Chief Human Resource Officer for Strategy Leadership Role

A Spectrum Health system senior vice president has assumed additional areas of responsibility.

Roger Jansen, PhD, senior vice president/chief human resource officer, has assumed the additional responsibilities of senior vice president of strategy. In his dual role, Dr. Jansen is responsible for developing and managing the long range strategies of Spectrum Health and will lead the organization’s strategic planning process. In addition, he has oversight of the organization’s human resource functions. Jansen has extensive experience in human resource management and organizational development. He has led organizations through transformational change, cultural shifts and workplace innovation to achieve sustainable growth in his role as owner and founder of ThinkWise, an organizational learning, consulting and technology company in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Jansen views providing leadership for both human resources and strategic planning is viewed as a natural fit. “My system-wide responsibilities in human resources have grown to include the role of guiding our strategic planning and I see great opportunity in this integration. When we talk about growth, we don’t mean more or bigger buildings. We’re talking about how to best leverage what differentiates Spectrum Health – our integrated system and, ultimately, our people,” said Jansen.

Jansen was named an Avanta 2012 Top 10 Breakaway Leader, which recognizes world-class human resource leaders who continue to deliver value by engaging and developing the global workforce of tomorrow. Prior to joining Spectrum Health in 2011, Jansen was CEO of Thinkwise for five years. He also served as president of Leadership Capital Group, a consulting firm, and as corporate psychologist at Human Resource Associates, both in Grand Rapids. In addition, Jansen was a professional psychologist with a focus in the areas of clinical psychology, neuropsychology and education. Jansen also founded New Dimension Software, LLC, a software company focused on entertainment and business applications.
