Spectrum Health West Michigan’s Stroke Program Nationally Recognized by American Heart Association

GRAND RAPIDS, MI, June 27, 2022 – Spectrum Health West Michigan has received the American Heart Association’s GoldPlus Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.

“Receiving the GoldPlus Award is an affirmation that we are providing the best and highest level of stroke care for our patients,” says Dr. Jiangyong (John) Min, Director of the Butterworth Hospital Comprehensive Stroke Center. “Time is critical, and our dedicated stroke team works to assure that each patient receives care that is timely and appropriate.”

Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death in the U.S., and a leading cause of disability. Early stroke detection and treatment are key to improving survival, minimizing disability, and accelerating recovery times.

“We are incredibly pleased to recognize Spectrum Health West Michigan for its commitment to caring for patients with stroke,” said Steven Messe, M.D., chairperson of the Stroke System of Care Advisory Group. “Participation in Get With The Guidelines® is associated with improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
