Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital Announces Lobby Renovation Project

Construction project aims to enhance patient safety, experience and privacy.

ZEELAND, Mich., Nov. 15, 2021 – During the final phase of the surgery expansion, Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital is undergoing a main lobby renovation project. Construction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

The new lobby has been designed with specific attention to patient access, convenience, privacy and safety. The renovated lobby registration area will set a welcoming stage for patients and visitors.

To comply with construction regulations and maintain patient safety, the main hospital entrance will be relocated for this portion of the renovation. For the months of November, December and much of January, the main entrance will be relocated to the DeWitt Administration Building (DAB) entrance, indicated by temporary signage.

Patient and visitor information:

  • Patients seeking laboratory, surgery, ambulatory treatment unit, radiology, respiratory, urology or other outpatient services may park in lot I and enter through the DeWitt Administration Building, to the east of the main hospital entrance.
  • Emergency department, sleep study and patients in labor may park in lot E and enter through the emergency department entrance.

Wayfinding assistance will be provided throughout the project.

Outpatient laboratory and registration will also be temporarily relocated to the conference rooms inside the DeWitt Administration Building entrance. The outpatient laboratory hours of operation will remain from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday and closed on Sunday.

“We look forward to having this project completed, offering our patients and visitors more efficient access and comfortable accommodations,” said Joe Klesney, chief operating officer, Zeeland Community Hospital. “The modernized space will accommodate the unique needs of individuals by offering barrier-free entrances, enhanced by the existing light and airy atmosphere.”

In addition to the lobby renovation, the surgery expansion increased the overall surgery department footprint and included a dedicated C-section procedure room, additional post-operation patient recovery bays and patient rooms, a dedicated surgical waiting room and family/physician consultation rooms. The grand opening of the surgery expansion and lobby renovation will take place in early 2022.
