Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital Employees Volunteer at City On A Hill
ZEELAND, Mich., May 1, 2017 – On April 29, Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital hosted an event to give back to the community. Over 80 employees and their families teamed together to spruce up the grounds of City On A Hill at the old Zeeland Community Hospital building.
“Returning to the hospital’s former home was a great way to celebrate our 90th anniversary,” said Sara Donkersloot, director, foundation and community services, Zeeland Community Hospital. “Our mission is to improve the health of the community. We have a responsibility to promote healing, not only within the hospital walls, but also by supporting our neighbors.”
The volunteers spent the entire morning working to renew and beautify the landscaping. Helpers as young as 16 months got their hands dirty by pulling weeds, washing windows and spreading bark.
“City On A Hill is incredibly grateful for the continued partnership with Zeeland Community Hospital,” said Gary Ellens, director, City On A Hill Ministries. “It was touching to see so many hospital employees dedicate a Saturday morning to restoring our grounds.”
After the work was complete, volunteered gathered to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch, donated in part by Wolfies Sandwiches of Zeeland.
