Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital Hosts Annual Student Art Contest

ZEELAND, Mich., February 10, 2022 – Art has the power to heal, inspire, provoke thought and offer hope. For 19 years, Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital has partnered with local schools to hold its annual Student Art Contest.

Due to COVID-19 visitor limitations, this contest was held virtually in 2021 and will continue in that format for 2022. Allegan and Ottawa County students in grades 3 through 8 are invited to submit a piece of artwork created at home or in school. One entry will be accepted per student. We are looking for art that will bring joy to the entire lakeshore community from children to adults.

“It is so important for our children to know they have the ability to positively impact the world every day,” said Heather Lopez, communications specialist and program coordinator. “Art and creativity are wonderful ways to spread hope and healing to our community and that’s exactly what we need right now. Until it’s possible to reconvene in person, we’re thrilled to host the annual Student Art Contest in a virtual format again this year.”

Art will be collected from February 14 to March 14 and displayed by grade level on the Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Facebook page (facebook.com/zeelandcommunityhospital). Community members are invited to judge the contest by ‘liking’ their favorite piece during the week of March 21. Winners will be announced via the Facebook page on March 28. Art will be awarded first, second and third place in each grade level and winners will be contacted following the event and sent an award ribbon.
