Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital Hosts Free Car Seat Event
ZEELAND, MI – June 19, 2017 – Is your child riding safely? Car seats reduce the chance of injury and death by nearly 70 percent, but only if your child is in the appropriate seat, and the seat is properly installed. Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital is offering free car seat safety checks as part of the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention Program on the Lakeshore.
The event is scheduled for June 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Allendale Fire Sataion located at 6676 Lake Michigan Drive, Allendale. The car seat safety program offers installation tips and checks from trained safety experts.
“Ninety-six percent of car seats are misused,” said Erin Baughn, community health programs coordinator, Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital. “Events like these help us educate families about the importance of proper use and help them get an appropriate seat, if needed. We are excited to offer these events to families on the lakeshore.”
All car seat inspections are free. At an event, a car seat will be examined to make certain it meets safety requirements. If a new car seat is needed, one can be purchased appropriate for the child’s height and weight. Children who need a replacement seat must be present with a parent or legal guardian. A limited number of low-cost replacement car seats are available for those who qualify. Appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, please call Erin Baughn at 616.772.2285.
