Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital Open House to Showcase Student Art
February 4, 2020— Art has the power to heal, inspire, provoke, challenge and offer hope. For more than 17 years, Zeeland Community Hospital has partnered with local schools to hold its annual Student Art Contest. This event celebrates the award-winning art of young students whose talents will be displayed for hospital staff, patients and visitors to enjoy.
The winning artwork will be showcased at an open house on Friday, February 21, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the DeWitt Professional Office Building located on the hospital’s campus. This is a public event and community members are invited to view the artwork and enjoy refreshments.
“This event recognizes the talent and creativity of our local students,” said Heather Lopez, communications specialist, Zeeland Community Hospital. “The artwork is appreciated by all who visit the hospital. We are grateful for the enthusiasm and support of the art teachers, schools, as well as the support of Zeeland Hardware, who assists with framing of the winning middle school art pieces.”
Young artists in third through eighth grade at local schools have the opportunity to compete in this annual contest. School art teachers will submit the top three pieces from each grade; judges then determine first, second and third place honors for each grade per school. The contest also awards a “best in show” winner.
The artwork of the first-place winners for the middle school grades will be professionally matted and displayed at the hospital for one year. All featured artists will receive a ribbon.
