West Michigan Physician Named Pediatrician of the Year

Jim Fahner, MD, division chief of pediatric hematology and oncology at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, was named the William Montgomery 2010 Pediatrician of the Year by the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Fahner earned the award in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the advancement of pediatric health care.

Dr. Fahner earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Fahner is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Hematology/Oncology and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Dr. Fahner is involved in numerous hospital, community and civic organizations. He is currently a member of the Spectrum Health Medical Group Board of Directors, the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Committee and the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation board. He is currently Chairman of the Board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan, the Chairman of the Board for Hospice of Michigan Foundation and President of the Forest Hills Public Schools Board of Education, and serves on the Medical Advisory Board of Gilda’s Club of Grand Rapids and on the Board of Trustees of the Van Andel Research Institute Graduate School.

Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, a member of Spectrum Health, is a Grand Rapids-based hospital serving children throughout Michigan.
